AC Brea Recreational All-Star Program

PURPOSE

The purpose of All-Stars is to give exceptional recreation players, as nominated by their coaches, an opportunity to play with and compete against other players in a regional All-Star Tournament. The program is designed to help players, coaches, and Age Group Coordinators help identify players and coaches that maybe ready to move on to competitive soccer.

The process utilized by AC BREA in selecting and implementing the All-Star teams is intended to give us the strongest possible CALSOUTH District 3 teams to represent AC BREA.


1. CALSOUTH District 3 All-Star Teams

CALSOUTH District 3 All-Stars refers to the All-Star teams that will represent AC BREA in the CALSOUTH District 3 All-Star tournament for teams that play in 10U division and higher.

8U teams ONLY play in AC BREA’s City All-Star program which is a single day of games, usually the first weekend after Thanksgiving holiday.


2. Choosing All-Star Coaches

The process for choosing the AC BREA All-Star coaches shall be as follows:

All coaches who are interested in coaching the All-Star team for their division are welcome to submit their names for consideration to the Intercity Director. The names should be submitted to Intercity Director by Thanksgiving of each year. There is one team per gender/age division. All names submitted to the Intercity Director shall be forwarded to the Director of Coaching. If only one coach name is submitted then that coach shall be named as the All-Star coach for their division (so long as the coach has not had any disciplinary issues brought before the board). If multiple coaches names are submitted, then the Director of Coaches, the Intercity Director and the Division Director shall select the All-Star Coach for the division applying the selection criteria listed in section 2.1.


The All-Star Committee will consist of the Intercity Director, the Director of Coaches, the Club Age Group Coordinator (a representative from the competitive program), and all head coaches for their respective divisions.


2.1 Selection Criteria

  1. Coaches that have been disciplined by the board, or have been ejected from a game are not eligible for selection as an All-Star coach.
  2. The Coaches win/lose record for the regular season.
  3. The Coaches win/lose record for prior seasons.
  4. The Coaches coaching license.
  5. The Coaches participation in AC BREA activities and coaches meetings.
  6. The Coaches time availability/flexibility


The All-Star coaches should be selected prior to the player try-outs. At the time a coach accepts the position of All-Star coach he/she must specify who his/her assistant coach will be. The assist coach shall be selected by the All-Star head coach, subject to Board approval.


2.2 Exceptions

The Board of Directors has the ability to formally recommend that a coach be refused the right to coach All-Stars based on behavioral problems, disregard for the AC BREA Rules and/or Regulations or disregard for the spirit of the game. A coach is automatically subject to ineligibility if he or she has been ejected from a game. A coach may also be subject to review if he or she has been the subject of other disciplinary measures brought on by the board of directors. A review will be held by the Board of Directors to discuss the nature of the offense(s). If agreed by a majority vote of 2/3 or more, then the Board of Directors will recommend to the All-Star Committee that the coach be removed as a candidate for coaching All-Stars.


3. Selecting the AC BREA Intercity All-Star Players

3.1 All-Star Player Selection Process for U10 and older

AC BREA selects the All-Star players via tryouts for the team. The following process will be used to ensure fairness and accuracy in selecting the AC BREA Intercity All-Stars:

The AC BREA Intercity All-Star pool of players will be determined by the AC BREA coaches during the regular playing season. At the end of each season each Head Coach, prior to the play-offs (usually before the Thanksgiving break), will select 3-6 players from their team (depending on number of teams and what division) for the All-Star team. Each player that is selected for the All-Star try-outs shall have a “high” ranking from the AC BREA ranking system. If a player is selected for the All-Star try-outs that has a less than average to average rank then the nominating coach must explain why that player is being selected. If the Coach has a child on the team, the Coach’s child shall automatically be on the team. All players nominated for the All-Stars shall be “on the team”. Whether they are players for the All-Star games or alternatives shall be determined later.

8U division, there are no try-outs, each team will nominate 2-4 players for the All-Star team (depending on number of teams). From the nominated players, teams will be formed. Players from the same team will stay together on the All-Star team

In All-Stars, teams are broken up into individual age brackets. For example, for our 10U division, two teams will be formed, a 9U team and a 10U team. Therefore, each coach must make sure to identify players for both age groups from the 3-5 players selected. Additionally, it is recommended that coaches keep in mind that AC BREA wants to develop well rounded All-Star teams, therefore it is not necessarily best to nominate all forwards, or just your highest scoring players. Keep in mind that a proper soccer team is made up of Forwards, Midfielders, Defenders, and a Goalkeeper.

After try-outs, the head coaches, along with the Technical Director and the corresponding competitive coach for each division will meet and confer and select which players shall play in the All-Star games and which players will be alternates to represent AC BREA in the District 3 Tournament. The Technical Director and each Club Age Group Coordinator of the corresponding age division shall be informed of the All-Star practice schedule and shall be invited to help with the practices.

All All-Star players shall receive the All-Star uniforms. The players shall pay for the All-Star uniforms which costs have historically been between $20-$25.

For 9U and 10U teams, it is recommended to select 11 players per team for a 7v7 format. Upon a showing of a compelling reason, a 12th player maybe selected.

For 12U teams, it is recommended to select 13 players per team for a 9v9 format. Upon a showing of a compelling reason, a 14th player maybe selected. It shall be the Head Coach’s responsibility to inform each player of their standing within the All-Star team.

For 14-16U teams, it is recommended to select 15 players per team for a 9v9 format. Upon a showing of a compelling reason, a 16th player maybe selected. It shall be the Head Coach’s responsibility to inform each player of their standing within the All-Star team.


4. Player Exceptions

The AC BREA All-Star Committee has the ability to formally recommend that a player be refused the right to play All-Stars based on behavioral problems, disregard for the AC BREA Rules and/or Regulations or disregard for the spirit of the game. A player is automatically subject to review if he or she has been issued at least one red card or at least two yellow cards throughout the season. A player may also be subject to review if he or she has been the subject of other disciplinary measures brought on by the board of directors. The review will be held in the same manner as for coaches in Section 2.


5. All-Star Game Schedules

CALSOUTH District 3 All-Star games are scheduled by Cal South, and generally are played toward the end of January, following Commissioners Cup matches. Check the schedule for exact dates
