Player Development

BSA is committed to developing each one of our Recreational, Signature and Club players. BSA offers our members many different opportunities to learn, grow and enjoy the game of soccer. Below is a summary of the various services BSA offers to our members.

See the BSA Player Development Calendar for all activities (all activities below include special sessions for BSA Goalkeepers)

  • Sparks Academy - Available to all player ages 5 to 8 years old
    • March – May
    • In 2009 will be expanded to 9-10 year olds
  • Spring Academy - Available to Blaze and Crossfire U11-U14 players each Spring
    • Goalkeeper Training – Tuesdays & Thursdays at Brea Jr High
    • Striker/Finishing School – Tuesdays & Thursdays at Brea Jr High
    • Freestyle School – Tuesdays & Thursdays at Brea Jr High
    • Futsal – Fridays at Brea Jr High
  • Summer Camp - Available to all players ages 5 to 14 years old
    • August
    • Also Blaze & Crossfire team camps – ask your coach for details
  • Fall Academy - Available to all players 5 to 14 years old
    • Fridays at Olinda Ranch Park September through Thanksgiving
  • Coaching Development - Available to all BSA coaches and parents
    • Monthly during the fall season
  • Winter Academy
    • 4-6 week program for all U8-U14 competitive teams/players – Blaze, Crossfire, Commissioners Cup, All-Stars
    • Martin Luther King Friendlies – every MLK holiday weekend
    • Winter Camp – 3-4 days of technical development over the winter break
  • Parents/Coaches Play the game! - Open to all BSA coaches and parents
      • Fall season – after the Fall Academy on Friday nights
      • Spring season – Futsal on Friday’s after the kids play


BSA Technical Director, Matt Morse - Entering his second year as BSA's TD, Matt oversees the development of BSA's Club, Signature and Recreational teams. Matt holds the USSF National "C" license as well as the NCSAA Director of Coaching certificate. Matt also serves as the General Manager & Camp Director for the Southern CA Seahorses Soccer Club. He also has 5 years of College coaching experience. Matt also oversees the BSA Player Development Academies where all of BSA's younger players (U9-U14) are trained to become proficient in the technical aspects of the game.
